What We Repair on Washing Machines
Most washing machine faults fall into a small number of categories. Because our technicians see them every working day, we carry the right parts on the van for the most common jobs: motor brushes, drain pumps, door lock interlocks, door seal (gasket) kits, drum paddles, shock absorbers, control boards, heater elements and brake bands. Around 85% of Sandton call-outs are completed on the first visit, with no return needed for parts.
Whether your machine is a front-loader bought from Hirsch's last year or a top-loader that has been in the laundry for fifteen years, the principles are the same: structured diagnosis, an itemised written quote before any work, and a 90-day workmanship guarantee. We service all the major brands sold in South Africa, including Samsung, LG, Bosch, Siemens, Defy, Whirlpool, Hisense, KIC, Smeg, Beko, AEG, Electrolux and Miele.
The Faults We See Most Often
- Machine won't drain or pumps water all the way through. Usually a blocked filter, foreign object lodged in the pump impeller, or a failed drain-pump motor. Cheapest first: the filter takes 5 minutes to clear.
- Drum not spinning. Front-loaders typically have worn carbon brushes on the universal motor. Top-loaders often have a snapped drive belt or a stuck pulse-mode timer. Both are short-visit fixes.
- Excessive vibration during spin. Worn shock absorbers, perished suspension springs, transit-bolts still fitted, or unbalanced installation. We level and re-tension on site.
- Door won't unlock at the end of a cycle. The thermo-actuator on the door interlock has failed. A 15-minute interlock swap clears the fault.
- Water leaking from the door or underneath. Door seal (gasket) perished, sump hose split, or pump body cracked. We carry OEM-sized gaskets for Samsung, LG, Bosch and Defy as standard stock.
- Error code on the display. Different brands use different codes: LG's OE/UE, Samsung's 5E/E2, Bosch's E03, Defy's eF. Each points to a specific fault path. Photograph the code and send it on booking so the right parts arrive with the technician.
- Burning smell or tripped breaker. Motor brushes burning out, or a winding short. Stop using the machine and book a call-out, this isn't a wait-and-see situation.
- Detergent drawer not dispensing. Blocked inlet jets, calcified detergent residue, or a failed water inlet solenoid. A descale and clean often solves it.

Front-Loaders vs Top-Loaders, What's Different
Front-loaders dominate the South African premium market, with Samsung, LG and Bosch the leading brands across Sandton homes. They're efficient, gentle on fabrics, and built to last over a decade with proper service. They also fail in specific ways: door seal perishing after about 5-7 years, motor brush wear at around 8-10 years, and drain-pump impeller breakage when a coin or button slips through.
Top-loaders are still the workhorse of many Gauteng households, particularly in older homes and family-volume laundries. They are mechanically simpler, easier to repair, and parts are widely available. The most common top-loader faults we attend are pulse-timer failures, drive belt slippage, and water-level sensor (pressure switch) issues. Defy and KIC dominate this segment, with a healthy share of older Whirlpool units still going strong.
