Appliance repairs in George — what we actually see here
The Garden Route has the wettest, most humid climate of anywhere we work, and humidity changes the appliance failure profile in ways that are worth understanding.
Tumble dryers work far harder here than they do inland, simply because air-drying laundry is unreliable for much of the year. Machines that would do four loads a week in Gauteng do fifteen here, and they wear proportionally. Drum rollers, jockey wheels and belts are the components we replace most, followed by heating elements and thermal cut-outs — the latter usually because the machine lives in an enclosed laundry with nowhere to vent the moisture it is removing.
Persistent humidity also works on electronics. Damp air and condensation inside appliance cabinets corrode contacts and cause the intermittent faults that are hardest to diagnose: a machine that works most of the time, fails on damp mornings, and tests perfectly when a technician is standing in front of it. Where you have that pattern, tell us — it is a real clue rather than an unhelpful detail.
The third factor is condensation in fridges. In a humid climate, every door opening admits moisture that then freezes on the evaporator. Fridges here ice up faster and block their defrost drains sooner, which is why so many Garden Route fridge calls turn out to be water pooling in the salad drawer rather than a cooling fault at all.

George and Garden Route questions
My tumble dryer takes forever to dry. Is the humidity to blame?
Partly, but usually not mostly. A dryer removes moisture by moving air, so if the machine is in a closed laundry it is recycling its own damp air and the ambient humidity makes that worse. Clear the lint filter, check the vent hose or condenser, and give the room somewhere for the moist air to go. If nothing changes after that, the element or the moisture sensor is the next place to look.
Water keeps collecting in the bottom of my fridge. Is it serious?
Usually not. In a humid climate the evaporator ices more heavily and the defrost drain blocks more readily, so meltwater ends up in the salad drawer instead of the drip tray. Clearing the drain is a modest job. Left alone, though, it eventually reaches the electronics, so it is worth dealing with.
